This is the Face of Genealogy

After the recent controversy from the LA Weekly article preceding the Southern California Genealogical Society Jamboree, I’m posting these photos of my ancestors. This is the face of genealogy to me.

I’m descended from people who come from all parts of the country, and before that the whole world. I descend from Germany, Ireland, England, and Scotland. My family has been scattered across Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, Florida, New York, Kentucky and Pennsylvania. We’ve probably had someone in every state at one point or another.  These are the faces of my genealogy.

I’m really glad the picture in question was changed. I wouldn’t want people to dismiss any part of learning about their family because of the connotation that the picture might have given it. I’m pretty easy going and I can understand the reason why the picture was put up in the first place. It was meant to be funny, I get that. However, I don’t understand why the internet insists on being funny at the cost of someone else. There are plenty of funny images of genealogy out there that could have been used and caused no controversy at all.
